Pedestrian hit by bus in in Edinburgh city centre as road remains closed

A person has been rushed to hospital in Edinburgh after being hit by a bus in the city centre. Around 2.30pm on Friday August 23, emergency services raced to Queensferry Street after reports of a collision.

The Scottish Ambulance Service transported the casualty to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and the road remains closed as cops launch a probe into the incident. It is unclear how serious their injuries are.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service told Edinburgh Live: "We received a call at 2.33 pm to attend a road traffic collision on Queensferry Street, Edinburgh. We dispatched two ambulances to the scene and one patient was transported to Royal Edinburgh Infirmary."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 2.40pm on Friday, 23 August, 2024 we were called to a report of a collision involving a bus and a pedestrian on Shandwick Place in Edinburgh. Emergency services attended and the pedestrian was taken to hospital. The road is closed and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."

Stagecoach East Scotland said: "Due to an Incident in Edinburgh Services will divert Via Princes Street, Frederick Street, Charlotte Street and Ryans Bar outbound."

Lothian Buses added: "Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve Queensferry Street (bus gate) and are instead diverted via Hope Street, Charlotte Square, George Street and Frederick Street in both directions until further notice."
