Pedestrian hit by car near Edinburgh Airport as police race to scene

A pedestrian has been hit by a car near Edinburgh Airport closing down the main route to the travel hub.

Eastfield Road has been shut by police with Edinburgh Airport warning passengers of delays while emergency services are in attendance.

The collision happened at around 1.50pm on Wednesday, August 28. Diversions have been put into place by cops.

Police Scotland said on X: "The main route into and from Edinburgh Airport – Eastfield Road - is currently closed due to a crash involving a car and a pedestrian that happened around 1.50pm on Wednesday, 28 August.

"Road users can still access the airport via Ingliston Road and Fairview Road."

Edinburgh Airport added: "Eastfield Road is currently closed due to an incident. Police have put local diversions in place. Traffic may be slower than usual while emergency services are in attendance."

Lothian Buses have also confirmed their diversions in place on the services 100, 200 and 400.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 1346 hours today to attend an incident on Eastfield Road in Edinburgh. We dispatched one ambulance and our special operations team to the scene. We transported one male patient in his 30s to New Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Eastfield Road leading to Edinburgh Airport has re-opened following a crash involving a car and a pedestrian that happened around 1.50pm on Wednesday, August 28.

"Thank you to road users for their patience. The pedestrian was taken to hospital by ambulance and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
