Tens of thousands of people have been undertaking a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience walking across the new Queensferry Crossing ahead of its official opening.

Some 50,000 people over two days took part in the Queensferry Crossing Experience before the newly-finished road becomes a full motorway and closed to pedestrians.

The new 1.7 mile (2.7km) Firth of Forth-spanning bridge is built alongside the existing Forth Road Bridge and carries the M90 motorway between Lothian and Fife.

The structure is the longest three-tower, cable-stayed bridge in the world and also by far the largest to feature cables which cross mid-span.

A ballot to walk across the £1.35bn bridge, described as a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience, attracted 250,000 entries and ticket-holders were joined on the walk over the weekend by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and Scotland’s Transport Minister Humza Yousaf.
