This quaint and rustic pink cob cottage in St Ives, Cornwall, offers a luxury coastal retreat with frontline views of Porthmeor Beach.

Accessed via a shared courtyard, Alba Beach House is a characterful, four-bedroom beach cottage and a wonderful seaside escape for families seeking solace. It remains as true to its Cornish fisherman's cottage roots today as it was in the mid-1800s.

The interiors soothe and settle; it's decorated with white walls and is neutral throughout. The current owners – who call it their 'slice of heaven by the sea' – wanted to retain as much of the original cottage as possible. They restored many of the founding features to its former glory, from the floorboards which have seen nearly 200 years of history, to the window boards which have been fashioned from the timber of long-lost ships.

Notable decor includes weathered nautical regalia, soft leather chairs, original artwork, and tinker trays mounted to walls.

Everything about the Alba Beach House is peaceful and serene. The cosy living room is bright and airy, and benefits from large windows and a wonderful window seat where you can read a good book or simply stare out to the beach, sea and beyond. Come evening, you can snuggle up and keep warm thanks to the wood burning stove.

The first bedroom, accessed via the snug, is complete with a free-standing bathtub with a view of the beach, while the second bedroom shares a Jack-and-Jill shower room with the master bedroom. The third bedroom benefits from incredible panoramic views of the beach, while the final room snuggly fits twin beds.

In the reclaimed and rustic kitchen, which overlooks the courtyard, you'll find a Rangemaster induction hob and double oven, as well as a washing machine with separate tumble dryer, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster.

Alba Beach House also has a wonderful history. It was previously on the site of a bakehouse, which was demolished in about 1840 to make way for the development of 10 fishermen's cottages around a central courtyard. Two of these cottages flanked the beach and make up what is known as Alba Beach House today, as well as one of the cottages to the side of the courtyard.

In the 1960s, the house was converted from three cottages to two, with interconnecting doors and the addition of the balcony, which hangs over the shore of Porthmeor Beach.

The cottage has changed hands on very few occasions and before the current owners bought the house, it had remained in the ownership of one family for over 60 years. One famous resident was Alfred Wallis, an artist and marina well known for his nautical paintings – he is commemorated with a plaque at the front of the courtyard.
