A furious Donald Trump has hit back at James Comey calling him a ‘slime ball’ after the former FBI chief said the US president asked him to investigate the infamous pee-tape claims so he could reassure wife Melania that he had not used Russian prostitutes.

Comey makes the claims in an explosive new book which has just been published.

‘He brought up what he called the “golden showers thing”. . . adding that it bothered him if there was “even a 1 percent chance” his wife, Melania, thought it was true,’ writes Comey.

‘He just rolled on, unprompted, explaining why it couldn’t possibly be true, ending by saying he was thinking of asking me to investigate the allegation to prove it was a lie. I said it was up to him.’

The claims after allegations in recent weeks that Donald Trump had an affair with porn star actress Stormy Daniels only four months after Melania gave birth in 2006.

The US president and Comey were talking at a private dinner.

The allegations came out overnight, UK time, and Trump did not take long to strike back on Friday on Twitter.

The US president accused Comey of leaking classified information, of being a liar and said it had been an ‘honor’ to sack him in two explosive early morning tweets.

The pee claims first came to light last year as documents compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele, which allegedly showed the sordid links between Trump and Russian agents.

It alleged that the Kremlin had a tape of Trump paying prostitutes to perform on a bed in a Moscow Ritz-Carlton suite in 2013.

Comey adds: ‘In what kind of marriage, to what kind of man, does a spouse conclude there is only a 99 percent chance her husband didn’t do that?’

Comey said Trump also brought up the incident a second time during a phone call.

Another reason you know this isn’t true: I’m a germaphobe. There’s no way I would let people pee on each other around me, no way,’ he write in his book, ‘A Higher Loyalty’.

Comey also likens Trump to a mafia boss and said he and the president’s entourage reminded him of his early days as a prosecutor against the Mob.

The book is expected to be an instant bestseller – and could provoke further political rows in the US.

Comey was sacked by Trump in May 2017, only the second time in US history the president has fired the FBI chief.
