When we first heard talk that Quentin Tarantino was developing a new Star Trek movie, we were all left scratching our heads.

While nothing has been set in stone yet, the idea of Tarantino helming one of the most beloved franchises of all time and putting his violent, sweary stamp on it sounds... interesting to say the least.

However, Simon Pegg has assured us all that it will not be "Pulp Fiction in space" should it happen, revealing that the director has a detailed knowledge of the series.

"Everyone sort of assumes it's gonna be like Pulp Fiction in space, but I think his devotion to Trek and his understanding of it... It won't be ordinary, it'll have him all over it, but it won't be anything a Star Trek fan will have to worry about," he told Coming Soon.

"He has an acute understanding of the story and he'd never do anything to tear it down. I haven't read the treatment yet, but I might be able to in the next couple of weeks, so I'm excited about that."

Pegg previously said that he didn't think Tarantino would direct a Star Trek movie, though whatever happens, it sounds like he has interesting ideas in the pipeline as he collaborates with JJ Abrams.

Paramount currently has two Star Trek movies in the pipeline, and it already looks like one of them may make history with the franchise's first female director.

Last month, it was reported that British filmmaker SJ Clarkson is in talks, having already helmed episodes of TV shows such as Jessica Jones and EastEnders.

However, Pegg confirmed that he himself was not working on the script for the next movie, clarifying: "I'm not developing the next Star Trek at all.

"I think that's a bit of confusion because I'm working on something with Doug [Jung] at Bad Robot but it's not the next Trek."
