Pensioner, 74, ‘fed marijuana-laced cookies to his local church congregation’

A 74-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly got his local church congregation high on weed cookies.

The pensioner, identified only as Mr Jones, is said by police to have handed out the naughty treats to parishioners at the St John’s Apostle Catholic Church in Bloomington, Indiana, last year.

Six people, aged between 12 and 70, ended up in hospital as a result of the “adverse effects” of the spiked cookies.

Police grew suspicious about what might have been in the cookies when the victims described an unusually salty taste.

However, police who searched his him found an “orange pill bottle containing capsules of a brown, oily substance, which later tested positive for marijuana,” according to IndyStar.com.

Mr Jones turned himself in after a warrant for his arrest was issued.

Father Daniel Mahan of the church said: “We are praying for everyone involved.

The pensioner has been charged with criminal recklessness and possession of hash oil.
