Pensioner almost walks into spider's web spanning six FEET from car in front of garage

Pensioner Russell Harding was stunned when he stepped outside and almost walked into this spider’s web which spanned six FEET in front of his garage.

After last week’s story of a giant ‘leaping’ spider which terrorised a family from their garage, this amazing picture appears to show an even bigger eight-legged visitor.

The spider’s web - which stretched from Mr Harding’s car wing mirror to his shed - had a an inch-and-a-half spider sat in the middle.

His amazing picture isn’t quite all it seems though, as the perspective of the close-up photo makes the web look much bigger than it actually is.

Nonetheless, with strands connecting from his car wing mirror to his shed (as seen in the picture below), the web is still six feet in total length.

Mr Harding, 74, from Colerne, Wilts, was mystified as to how the spider’s web managed to span such a distance.

He said: ‘It was right across the path way, I had to move it to walk through, I managed to detach it from my wing mirror and move it 90 degrees to a bin so it was still in tact but we could leave our house.

'The spider itself was about an inch-and-a-half wide, we think it was a she because of the size, she was very big.

'I have never seen a web that big before.

'My wife would have actually passed out if she had walked into the web. There would have been a lot of screaming.

'Fortunately it had been a very dewy morning which highlighted the web so I saw it before I walked into it.'

The web, which appeared overnight last Thursday, disappeared after three days.
