Pensioner dies in Edinburgh street as police block off road

A pensioner has tragically died following an incident on a busy road in Edinburgh.

Emergency services raced to Pennywell Road in the city on Thursday morning, October 24, at around 11:20am following a report of a concern for a person, reports Edinburgh Live.

Cops confirmed that an 80-year-old man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.

Bystanders explained how the road was blocked off as a huge police presence was at the scene.

Two ambulances and a police car were pictured at Pennywell Road, with an empty mobility scooter nearby.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.20am on Thursday, October 24, 2024, we received a report of a concern for a man at Pennywell Road in Edinburgh.

"Emergencies services attended but the 80-year-old man was pronounced dead. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
