Pensioner dies nine days after being hit by Mercedes near Glasgow

A pensioner has died nine days after being hit by a car near Glasgow.

Emergency services raced to the Stamperland Crescent area at Clarkston Toll roundabout after the accident happened at around 5.20pm on Friday, May 17. The crash involved an 86-year-old pedestrian and a Mercedes GLE.

Police previously revealed the OAP was fighting for his life, while they appealed for information. Sadly, officers have now confirmed he died in hospital on Thursday.

The road was closed off for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident. Officers are still asking anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.

Road Policing Sergeant Scott Gourlay said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has died, and everyone involved.

“Enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstanced and anyone who has not already spoken to officers and who can assist is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3034 of Friday, May 17, 2024.”
