Pensioner Has Miracle Escape After ‘Gas’ Blast Destroys Home

An elderly man had a lucky escape, after his house exploded and collapsed in a suspected gas leak.

The man – named locally as Bob Moss – was pulled from the smouldering wreckage of his Cornwall home and taken to hospital.

He is reportedly in a critical care unit, being treated for burns to his hands and arms.

Witnesses have described him as fortunate to be alive, after the explosion ripped off the front of his house and scattered debris all over the surrounding area.

The cause of the blast at Trecalgo View, in Camelford, is unknown but currently being investigated.

The wall to Mr Moss’s bedroom was torn off, exposing his bed and leaving the roof dangling precariously. He is believed to be in a stable condition.

Nearby houses and cars were also damaged and residents were evacuated as a precaution. Fire crews put out the blaze but a cordon remains in place.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said: “Police and partner agencies are investigating the cause of the explosion but can confirm that there is no risk of further explosions.

“Early indications suggest a gas canister had been delivered recently, which may have contributed to the explosion.”
