Elderly woman's miracle escape after car loses control and ploughs into her living room

A pensioner has had a miraculous escape after the driver of a car lost control and ploughed into her living room.

Emergency services were called after the vehicle smashed into the property Shropshire at 8pm on Monday night.

Shocking pictures taken by fire crews at the scene show the car completely embedded in the lounge with bricks and debris scattered across the room.

The female resident who was inside at the time escaped without any injuries – despite the gaping hole left in the front of her house.

The driver of the car was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment for "non-life threatening" injuries.

Police officers also attended the scene alongside four fire crews who worked to make the building and vehicle safe.

In a statement on social media, Bridgnorth Fire Station said: "The vehicle has impacted the building causing considerable damage to the front face of the property.

"Once on scene crews quickly made the building and vehicle safe.

"Delivering trauma care to the driver as well as comfort and support to the elderly resident who was in the property at the time of impact.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman added: "We were called at 8.10pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car that had collided with a building on Princess Drive, Bridgnorth.

"One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene. On arrival, we discovered two patients.

"The first, a man, the driver of the car, was assessed at the scene and had sustained non-life threatening injuries and was conveyed to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further treatment.

"A woman, who was in the building was also assessed at the scene, she was discharged on scene with self care advice."
