People asked to keep windows and doors shut after reports of smoke in area

People have been asked to keep their windows and doors closed if they can smell smoke.

Hyndburn Council have said that reports have come in about burning and smoke in the Great Harwood area.

A spokesperson for the council said: “If you can smell or see smoke in the proximity, please keep your windows and doors closed.

“If smoke/a fire is causing a pollution concern, but there is not a threat to life or property, you can report this directly to us at Hyndburn Borough Council.

“All reports made will be treated in the strictest confidence and your contact details will remain confidential.”

The council has advised business owners the dispose of waste to use a licenced operator.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said they received a call which they sent officers out to assess however, a fire engine was not required.

People are reminded that should there be an immediate risk to property or life due to fire to call 999 and ask for the fire service.
