People evacuated as firefighters tackle major blaze on Blackpool seafront
Firefighters are tackling a huge blaze near Blackpool seafront this evening. A derelict building, formerly the Strand Lodge hotel, went up in flames on Wilton Parade near to the North Promenade at around 5.38pm today, Monday January 27.
Police have urged people to 'avoid the area' as multiple road closures are in place. Video footage shared across social media show plumes of smoke billowing from the roof of the building as debris scatters
Local residents in nearby properties have reportedly been evacuated, according to the Manchester Evening News. It is thought displaced locals have been advised to go to the nearby Imperial Hotel.

One person posted on social media: "Please stay safe my family has been evacuated just glad they're safe." Another said: "Residents of neighbouring properties have been evacuated to the Imperial Hotel for the time being."
People living in the surrounding area have been urged to keep windows and doors shut. A spokesperson for the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We currently have eight fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms at a fire on Wilton Parade, Blackpool.
"The fire involves a derelict building and as a result people close to the incident are advised to keep windows and doors shut and if possible, avoid the area, as there are road closures in place."
