People Seen Carrying Large Boxes as Looting Continues in Durban

The death toll in days of violence and looting in South Africa had reached at least 72 by Tuesday evening, July 13, the government said. More than 1,200 arrests had been made.

This footage shows people carrying large containers down Durban’s South Coast Road. Similar scenes were observed elsewhere in KwaZulu-Natal province and Gauteng, as disturbances followed the jailing of former President Jacob Zuma.

Empty supermarket shelves and long lines at gas stations were reported on July 14 as the unrest affected supply chains. “Parts of the key N3 highway between Gauteng and KZN have been closed for days, with warehouses and freight services attacked,” News24 reported.
