People have some *thoughts* on Julia Garner's accent in new Inventing Anna trailer

Netflix has released the first trailer for Inventing Anna, the brand new series all about fake German heiress turned media sensation Anna Delvey. And while the Shonda Rhimes project looks unreal, it did prompt a few thoughts and feeling from fans about lead actor Julia Garner's accent.

The show is based on the true story of con artist Anna Delvey - real name Anna Sorokin - who managed to trick some of New York's wealthiest socialites into believing she was a billionaire heiress. As well as living out of a high end New York hotel, Anna travelled the world in private jets, attended exclusive events and went on luxury holidays, but eventually her tangled web of lies began to unravel and the reality of her situation and identity was exposed.

The long-awaited series stars Ozark actor Julia Garner as the German con artist and has been delayed multiple times due to coronavirus, so when the trailer for the series finally dropped, it's safe to say people were excited.

While the response to the trailer was roundly positive some fans picked up on one specific thing about the series that seemed off to them; Garner's slightly bizarre Anna Delvey accent.

"whatever that accent is it’s horrendous i’ll still watch it," one person wrote on twitter and another responded, "It’s supposed to be German but it’s giving Irish lmao."

Meanwhile, others pointed out that the accent is almost definitely intentional since the real life Anna Delvey's accent is said to be a very distinctive mixture of a number of accents, something that has been written about her a number of times.

Julia Garner is obviously a genius (we've all seen Ozark), so we're inclined to think she's knows exactly what she's doing and she's doing it flawlessly.

Inventing Anna lands of Netflix on 11 February.
