People who've bought BBC TV Licence fee being handed £174 refunds
People who've bought the BBC TV Licence fee are being handed £174 refunds as the price rises from next year. The BBC licence fee will return to rising in line with the annual rate of inflation again for the first time in three years next year.
It comes as the Labour Party government also said it will review alternate funding models as part of an “honest” conversation about the long-term future of the corporation. But ahead of the £174 charge, you can apply for a refund up to 14 days before the date you no longer need the TV Licence.
You can claim a refund online. TV Licensing told Birmingham Live: "We aim to process and issue refunds within 21 days of receiving your application. Any refund due to you will be paid to you by either a cheque or by BACS transfer directly into your bank account.

"If we approve your refund, your licence will be cancelled automatically. If you’re not eligible for a refund, you can still cancel your licence online." On its website, it states: "Remember – if you’re moving home, you should move your licence rather than ask for a refund.
"To find out, you can sign in to your licence with your licence number, name on the licence and postcode." Any refund due is calculated in unused months. You must have at least one complete month left on your licence that you won’t need before it expires.
So you could get a refund for between one and 11 months, depending on how long you have left on your licence. You won’t be eligible for a refund if there is less than one month between the cancellation date and the expiry date.
If you haven’t paid for your licence in full, its expiry date may be changed to reflect what you’ve paid.
