Make the perfect poached eggs every time with 'foolproof' method

Poached eggs are a perfect breakfast but that can be hard to get right. John Kanell of Preppy Kitchen took to his YouTube channel to help people get the best results.

He said: "Poached eggs are one of my all-time favourite ways to enjoy eggs." To his 4.81 million subscribers, he spilled the beans on the diverse ways you can savour poached eggs - from the classic eggs Benedict and eggs Florentine to tossing them into salads.

He said: "They're so good. That gooey yolk and perfect white... it's hard to beat." John assured viewers that poaching an egg is a breeze if they stick to his approach.

Delving into his foolproof technique, John instructed to fill a large, wide saucepan with two inches of water before heating it up until boiling, reports the Express.

He stressed the importance of egg freshness and gentle boiling water, he said: "As long as you're using fresh eggs and your water is gently boiling, not violently coming like a rolling boil, you're going to be OK."

Next, John underscored the need for eggs that settle at the bottom of a glass of water lying flat on their sides, elaborating that such eggs are "more coagulated and thicker".

John said: "We're going to use a tablespoon of vinegar." Although highlighting its optional nature. He said: "Vinegar will coagulate an egg white, and almost cook it with acid."

Once the saucepan water is softly bubbling, John advises to crack an egg into a smaller bowl or ramekin. The final step, as per John, is to lower the heat "until it is just barely simmering" before introducing the measure of vinegar.

"Use a spoon and create a swirling vortex of water," John advised. "And now [you're] going to carefully plop the egg right into the centre."

John added: "Leave the egg to cook for three minutes, or until the egg white is opaque, it's firmer, and it gives a bit when gently pressed with a spoon."

Once cooked, you can remove the poached egg with a slotted spoon knowing the yolk will still be lovely and runny inside. This is the "traditional" method for poaching an egg, and it works perfectly to create a delicious bite to eat.
