New permanent Byres Road marketplace set to open with dozens of local traders
A new permanent marketplace giving Glasgow small business owners the opportunity to sell their products is set to open in the west end.
Byres Road Market will be located in Hillhead Library and take place monthly, hosting more than 25 different local traders, selling everything from street food to sustainable fashion and more.
The first market will take place on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th of October from 11am to 4pm.
One of the Byres Road Market founders Jordan Trainer spoke to Glasgow Live ahead of the launch, explaining the inspiration behind the marketplace.

He said: "I first did this a wee while back and used the old Poundland ship in Partick. I turned it into a local pop-up market for traders. It was only temporary because the building was getting knocked down.
"Since then we’ve been looking for empty spaces to turn into markets and through that, that’s how I met all these different trades and realised how many people want a local market that’s something permanent."
Jordan and the rest of the team first became aware of the library space which had lain empty since lockdown. After receiving the green light from Glasgow City Council, the market will now be a permanent instalment in the library.
"We came across the library and we found they had this empty space they hadn’t used since lockdown," Jordan said. "We’re one of the first to use it again and turn it into a local market for people in the west end.
"For local vendors, if you find a really good spot, it’s really hard to rent in that area it’s so expensive. A market is a more affordable way.
"I’m always looking for different space, I love doing these kind of events. I think it’ll be great to find other venues and make use of empty spaces. There’s so many empty spaces that just need to be used. It’s trying to make use of them and about the community and local people and local business as well."
