Perrie Edwards has given a rare Little Mix update as the band continues to take an extended "break".

Little Mix announced their hiatus back in 2021, with Perrie, Leigh-Anne and Jade confirming they would step back after their Confetti Tour finished in April 2022.

Perrie has released some new solo material, with her first single "Forget About Us" out in April, and new song "Tears" to be released on Friday, June 21. She performed at Capital's Summertime Ball this weekend, and has said she feels "way more confident" without her fellow band members.

The singer, 30, has said branching out on her own has given her a major confidence boost because she's having to work without having the other singers as a "comfort blanket". She told Numero Netherlands magazine: "I'm just way more confident now I suppose, because I don't have people to hide behind.

"I was used to having the girls as my comfort blanket, whereas now I have to step up. I have to push myself out of my comfort zone a lot more than I've ever done before."

She also told the publication her upcoming album features very personal lyrics including words about her footballer fiancé Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and their son Axel. Perrie added: "I took inspiration from everywhere in my life.

"How being in love makes you feel, my anxiety, literally everything that I kind of feel I've been through I've put into a song on the album."

Fellow Little Mix star Leigh-Anne Pinnock has also released solo music since the band confirmed their break, while Jade Thirlwall recently shared pictures from the studio suggesting she's hard at work on her own material.

But the women have insisted Little Mix is not over for good and they plan to get back together in the future. At the time their break was announced, they said: "We are not splitting up. Little Mix are here to stay. We have plans for more music, tours and performances in the future.

"We’ve made so many incredible memories with you all, and we can’t wait to make so many more."
