Person dies after 999 crews called to casualty on tracks near Topsham station

A person has died after emergency services were called to reports of a casualty on Devon's railway lines. British Transport Police and paramedics rushed to the scene near Topsham station shortly after 1pm today (Tuesday, June 4).

Sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

British Transport Police said: "We were called to an area close to Topsham station shortly after 1pm today, Tuesday June 4, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

All train services between Exeter St David's and Exmouth have been cancelled following the incident. Traffic and travel monitoring site Inrix reports: "No service on Great Western Railway between Exeter St Davids and Exmouth due to emergency services dealing with an incident at Topsham."
