Person dies after being hit by train in Croydon

A person suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a train in Croydon. Emergency services rushed to the railway line near Kenley station at 8am this morning (Thursday, January 23) to reports of a casualty.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. British Transport Police is carrying out an investigation into death.

A force spokesperson said: "Officers were called to the line near Kenley railway station at around 8am this morning (January 23) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries into the circumstances leading up to their death are ongoing.”

Lines from Purley to both Caterham and Tattenham Corner reopened shortly after 1pm this afternoon following the incident. Passengers have been told to expect delays while the service returns to normal.
