Person dies after 'falling into plane engine' at Amsterdam airport in front of horrified passengers

A person has tragically died after 'falling into the engine of a plane' at Amsterdam airport on Wednesday afternoon (May 29).

They reportedly became trapped in the running aircraft engine at Airport Schiphol. It is not yet clear whether the individual, who has not been identified, was a passenger or an employee.

Those on board who witnessed the horrific incident were later taken off the plane and are currently being supported, the Amsterdam Royal Military Police said.

A statement released by Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) airport said: “Today there was a horrible incident where a person ended up in an airplane engine. Our thoughts go out to the relatives and we care for the passengers and colleagues who witnessed this. The Royal Military Police is currently conducting an investigation.”

The Amsterdam Royal Military Police wrote on X: "An incident occurred this afternoon on the Schiphol platform where a person fell into a running aircraft engine and died. The Marechaussee starts an investigation.

"All passengers and employees of the flight in question have been disembarked and are being taken care of."
