Arizona Bodies Believed To Be Missing Couple

An Arizona man has been arrested after two bodies, thought to be of a couple missing for more than a week, were found at his property, authorities say.

Michael and Tina Careccia vanished last month and their 2008 Honda Accord was discovered abandoned in the city later that evening.

The couple had left their home at around 5am on 22 June to go to work, but never arrived.

Police have detained Jose Valenzuela, 38, who lives at the Maricopa property where the remains were found.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said the bodies of a man and a woman recovered at a home were thought to be the Careccias.

The arrest comes a day after a search warrant was served at the house, not far from where the Maricopa couple’s vehicle was found.

Video footage had shown investigators digging in an area close to the home on Wednesday night.

Volunteers in jeeps, quad bikes, dirt bikes and trucks joined police officers during several days of searches in a remote area outside Maricopa.

A sheriff's spokesman said on Tuesday that evidence had been uncovered which suggested foul play.

Geoff Dugan, Mr Careccia's brother-in-law, said: "We knew there was foul play from the get-go.

"There's no reason they wouldn't come home."
