Person 'seen entering Menai Strait' as major search operation launched

A major search operation has been launched after a person was seen entering the Menai Strait this morning. Emergency services, including the coastguard helicopter and specialist firefighters, are scouring the water between Gwynedd and Anglesey after being alerted this morning.

North Wales Police said the person entered the water shortly before 9.45am. They are now appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

A spokesperson said: "Searches are currently ongoing on the Menai Strait following a report that a person entered the water shortly before 9.45am this morning, Friday September 20th. Partner agencies including the fire service, coastguard and ARCC (Aeronatical Rescue Co-ordination Centre) are assisting with our searches in the area.

"We would appeal for anyone travelling along Menai Bridge between 9.20-9.45am this morning and saw anyone walking in the area, or may have dashcam footage, to contact us quoting reference Q142472."
