Peruvian Airlines plane leaves trail of fire in dramatic crash-landing

A plane left a trail of fire on the runway after it crash landed in Peru but all 141 passengers and crew survived.

Peruvian Airlines flight 9110 suffered a dual gear collapse at Francisco Carle Airport at 4.30pm local time yesterday (Tue), according to aviation authorities.

Dramatic images showed the aircraft on fire with thick black smoke billowing from the wreckage and a long trail of flames.

In a statement, the airline said all passengers on board were evacuated and none were “considerably injured”.

The regional airport is about 170 miles from the capital Lima.

The fire likely started when the wing scraped the runway, Interior Minister Carlos Basombrio said.

"The plane couldn't stop on the runway and they made a manoeuvre to stop it with the wing and that appears to have caused the fire," Basombrio told reporters on local broadcaster RPP.

Boeing said it was aware of the reports of the incident and was gathering information.
