Pet Parrot Rescues Owner From Violent Attack

A pet parrot has foiled an assault by squawking and flapping its wings at a man who attacked its owner in a London park.

Police are appealing for information on the attack, which took place at Sunningfields Park in Hendon.

The attack occurred when a 25-year-old woman took the pet African Grey parrot for a walk and a flight.

As she left the park, a man grabbed her by the shoulders and pushed her to the ground.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police said the bird - named Wunsy - came to the woman's rescue by flapping its wings and squawking.

The bird's loud protestations startled the suspect, who escaped towards Great North Road. The woman and the parrot were unharmed during the assault.

PC Chris Cutmore, from Colindale Police Station, said: "This was a random attack on a woman walking out of a park.

"Although the parrot Wunsy came to her rescue, we are obviously very keen to trace the suspect and prevent him from attacking anybody else."

The suspect has been described as white male, aged between 25 and 35 years, with short blonde hair.

He was wearing beige trousers and a dark black rucksack at the time.
