Acid-tongued Dead Or Alive singer Pete Burns is well known for his addiction to going under the knife – and in a new Channel 5 show, he admits that this compulsion almost killed him.

The 57-year-old star appears on Channel 5’s Celebrity Botched Up Bodies this week, and claims that he’s had an incredible 300 procedures in a bid to patch up a succession of botched ops on his famously cartoonish face.

Things reached a low point when Pete, best known for his 1983 hit ‘You Spin Me Round (Like A Record), forked out £750 for a nose job, only to wake up covered in blood. A lip plumping procedure went nightmarishly wrong when the filler started to spread all over his face.

“I started to develop holes in my skin and if I so much as touched my face there would be an audible hissing and out onto the mirror would vomit this yellow fluid,” he told TV producers.

Not a show to watch while eating your tea then, readers.

The star successfully sued the surgeon responsible for the hamfisted ops and received £450k in compensation – most of which was spent on 200 or so more procedures over the next couple of years in a bid to fix the problem.

“I’ve had a major operation a week for two years to remove it from my cheeks where it had migrated, my Adam’s apple, the back of my eyes,” he says. “They couldn’t do anything about the liver and the kidneys. I had to excrete that out.”

Medication also took its toll on his health, and he was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.

“I developed blood clots and pulmonary embolisms in my legs, heart and lungs. I got these black marks on my skin and I thought they were bruises. The next thing my driver came in and I was unconscious, not breathing.”

Incredibly, after 10 days fighting for his life, Pete made a full recovery – and then booked himself another appointment down at the local plastic surgeons, naturally.

“I’ve got staples, nuts, bolts, stitches, the whole lot. I’m Frankenstein. I’m feeling wonderful. I’ve got complete flexibility, not tightness at all,” he says.

“People might think I’m the ugliest son of a b**** alive but I want to maintain this appearance.’
