Pete Davidson has told how he knew he wanted to marry Ariana Grande the first day that they first met.

The Saturday Night Live comedian and No Tears Left to Cry singer made headlines after their whirlwind romance saw them get engaged after just weeks of dating.

Davidson told GQ how he immediately had his sights set on the pop star after just one date.

The 24-year-old explained: “The day I met her, I was like, ‘Hey, I’ll marry you tomorrow.’

“She was calling my bluff. I sent her a picture (of engagement rings).

“I was like, ‘Do you like any of these?’ She was like, ‘Those are my favourite ones,’ and I was like, ‘Sick.'”

The couple, both 24, started dating in May and it was reported earlier this year they planned to marry.

On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, in June, Davidson became the first one out of the pair to talk publicly about the engagement.

The comedian said he felt “like I won a contest” when describing his engagement to the pop star.

In a teaser of the episode posted to Twitter, Fallon jokingly remarked: "You know you didn't have to get engaged to Ariana Grande to come on our show."

The Saturday Night Live star replied: "But I did though! I feel like I won a contest. So sick."

When asked how he was handling it all, Davidson replied: "It's f****** lit, Jimmy."

He then joked men were paying respect to him in the street and claimed one fan approached him and said: "Yo man, you gave me hope!"
