Peter Kay promises Car Share will "resolve" cliffhanger

From Digital Spy

Don't worry, Car Share fans – you will get resolution to that jaw-dropping romantic cliffhanger from the series two finale in the upcoming special.

Peter Kay and Sian Gibson are reuniting next week for a one-off special that picks up a year after Kayleigh (Gibson) abandoned John (Kay) on the motorway, when he couldn't bring himself to declare his true feelings for her.

At the time, the series two finale was presented as the definitive end of Car Share - which Peter Kay quickly realised wasn't actually going to stick once fans revolted.

"We always knew the second series would end that way and we thought people might be a bit miffed but never thought they would be so devastated," he said.

"We decided to write another episode that hopefully gave the characters a resolve and I thought let's hold this back until the repeat of the second series.

"It was hard to keep it a secret after the reaction we got, but we never said that there wouldn't be any more Car Shares... we just said there wouldn't be a third series."

As for the future of Peter Kay's Car Share, Sian Gibson still isn't giving up hope of viewers getting to ride along with John and Kayleigh again in the future.

"Never say never," she teased," with Peter joking: "Well, unless you're waiting on an invite to Sian's house!"

Peter Kay's Car Share: The Finale will air next Monday (May 28) at 10pm on BBC One, so warm up those singing voices people!
