Peter Kay has revealed a brand new and emotional Car Share scene.

Last month, the comedian and his co-star Sian Gibson dropped a surprise audio-only episode of the show to try and cheer fans amid the current pandemic. He's now dropped a written sketch too.

Peter published the sketch, which sees John recall to Kayleigh a time he went for a brain scan after a cancer scare, in a new book celebrating the NHS.

"I went for a brain scan once… it was years ago, I kept getting these really bad headaches," John tells Kayleigh in the sketch.

"My GP said it was sinuses, but being a proper hypochondriac, I thought bollocks, what does he know? So I booked in for a brain scan."

Recalling the music he picked to have play during the scan, John revealed things took an emotional turn, adding: "I went for the Best Of Simon & Garfunkel.

"I love them and they would have been the perfect choice if the first song hadn’t been 'The Sound Of Silence', with the opening line, 'Hello darkness my old friend, I’ve come to talk to you again'… and there’s me laying in this MRI machine having a brain scan.

"It got worse – in the third verse the lyrics are 'silence like a cancer grows'. I was in tears. I was ashen when I came out."

The sketch has a happy ending with John revealing his cancer scare was merely a sinus problem, which was sorted with antibiotics.

It follows the Car Share audio-only episode receiving over 170 complaints for an "offensive" breastfeeding joke.
