Peter McGrail has set his sights on a huge British showdown with Dennis McCann after he obliterated Brad Foster on Saturday night. The huge Everton supporter was returning to the ring for the first time since April, and he made short work of former British and Commonwealth champion Foster.

Starting on the front foot from the first bell, McGrail fought behind a strong jab and used his impressive footwork to avoid Foster’s shots at the Canon Medical Arena in Sheffield. Speaking in the building up to the fight, McGrail vowed to produce a dominant display, and in round number two he landed a crushing body shot that brought an abrupt end to the contest.

Digging a left uppercut into Foster’s body at the one minute and eight seconds mark, the experienced fighter immediately hit the canvas, and, although he tried to rise to his feet before the end of the 10 count, referee Michael Alexander waved the fight off. It is now two wins from two for McGrail since he was knocked out by Ja'Rico O'Quinn at the Desert Diamond Arena in December, and he is hoping a showdown with McCann for the British and European super-bantamweight titles comes next.

“That’s the fight we want,” he said. “I just hope he doesn’t vacate those two belts because I’m coming for them. Hopefully see you next year.”

While McGrail’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, added: “I honestly think that’s one of the best fights in British boxing. The British and European titles have been ordered, and we’ve already spoken to Queensberry (McCann’s promoter).

“That’s one of the top, top fights in British boxing, and I think he’s ready. The winner of that will probably go on and challenge for world titles.”
