Petitions launched as locals say 'if we do nothing we'll lose our Post Office'
Locals have launched petitions to save the two Lancashire Post Offices set to close.
Earlier this week, The Post Office confirmed the proposed closure of 115 branches including two in Lancashire - Morecambe and Poulton, and two in Cumbria - Kendal and Barrow.
The Post Office has 11,500 branches across the UK, the majority of which are run by independent postmasters, while some are operated by external retailers. It is the Crown branches, owned directly by The Post Office, which have been earmarked for closure although they could still be transferred to other operators.

A Poulton councillor has urged locals to sign his petition which he has launched in a bid to save the branch which he says is used by 3,500 every week. Cllr Paul Hart said in his petition: "The post office is a vital service in the heart of Morecambe, and it must stay open.
"There are 3,500 people a week who use and depend on it. We can't start thinking that it can be downsized and stuck in the back of another store."
Meanwhile, Poulton MP Andrew Snowden, the former Police and Crime Commissioner in Lancashire, has also launched a petition to save his local Post Office - the second county branch earmarked for closure.
The Conservative MP said in his petition: "The Teanlowe Post Office in Poulton-Le-Fylde serves as a lifeline for a considerable segment of our community, particularly the elderly residents who strongly rely on its services for their daily needs.
"As there are no banks in Poulton, the post office maintains an irreplaceable presence, ensuring secure access to critical financial services. The planned closure of this significant institution will not only undercut the social fabric of our community but also will have an ongoing economic effect on our town centre and local businesses.
"Therefore, we implore the Labour Government and the Post Office to reconsider their decision.
"Saving Teanlowe Post Office from closure resonates not only with maintaining the comfort of our day-to-day affairs but also with preserving the essence of Poulton-Le-Fylde that we all cherish and depend upon.
"Stand up for community rights and retention of essential services, sign this petition to urge the authorities to keep the Teanlowe Post Office open."
