England's Phil Foden has departed the national team's camp due to a "pressing family matter", as confirmed in an FA statement.

"Phil Foden has temporarily left the England camp and returned to the UK for a pressing family matter," the FA statement declared. The youngster, who is a key part of Pep Guardiola's Manchester City squad, had taken to the field against Slovenia on Tuesday.

Following Tuesday's game in Cologne, which ended in a stalemate allowing England to top their group, Foden reportedly left the camp. Southgate's team have no scheduled games until Sunday, potentially giving the 24 year old enough time to get back for the last-16 match in Gelsenkirchen, reports the Mirror.

Foden has developed into a key player for England, missing just one match since March 2023. He was left out of the squad for the pre-tournament friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina, with Manchester City's players finishing their domestic season later than others after reaching the FA Cup final.

The Man City academy graduate played a key role in his team's title defence last season, while he has four goals in 37 senior appearances
