Darts legend Phil Taylor is eager to delve into darts commentary following his retirement from a remarkable career on the oche. At 64, Taylor has decided to call it a day after undergoing hip surgery after being struck down with arthritis.

His first retirement was in 2018, but he made a comeback to participate in the World Seniors Darts Championship four years later.

Now officially retired from competition, 'The Power' still harbours a desire to remain involved in the sport he adores - and he could be appearing on a major prime-time reality TV show. The 16-time world champion, from Burslem, will therefore be trying his hand at commentary during the World Seniors Darts Masters in Sunderland this weekend.

"Some of the older players are coming to retirement age now and I think you'll see an influx of a few more household names which will help the Seniors," he commented. "I'm looking forward to it, depending on what games they give me! ".

"If they want younger people [in the future] that's fine. I'm not too worried about it, but I wouldn't want to be away from home week in week out like I used to be. With my experience I can sometimes tell what pressure they're under and what they're thinking at that particular time. Sometimes you can just tell they're not going to hit the double."

The iconic player is excited about spending more time with his family and reducing his travel. "I'm retired now, properly retired," he declared. "I'm just going to do some personal appearances. How do I know? My eyes started going a few years ago then my hip went and then the travelling.

"You're away from home four-five days a week and it's good for money but it's not good for your family. My mind is still in my teens but my body is 90."

Although he doesn't relish the constant travelling, Taylor expressed enthusiasm about visiting Sunderland this weekend. "It's great that darts is coming back to the north east," he remarked.

"I love the north east. I've got some good friends up there and have family that live in Newcastle."

He continued, praising the local supporters: "The fans always turn out in their droves in the north east and they enjoy themselves and make it a good atmosphere. I just hope the players perform well enough for the people who are paying to watch! ".

Moreover, Taylor has voiced a potential interest in a stint on the ITV show 'I'm A Celebrity' someday. He disclosed: "I'd be interested but not this year, it's too late. Someone mentioned I was the favourite in the bookies but I said 'I have no idea how'."
