Philippine Surf Resort Devastated by Typhoon Rai

Typhoon Rai left a trail of destruction in the southeast Philippine province of Surigao del Norte, video from December 20 showed, as the country’s National Police told media the death toll had reached 208.

The Manila Bulletin said 52 people remained unaccounted for.

Footage posted by Selle Figuron on Monday shows collapsed huts, roofs torn off buildings, and trees strewn across the road in the municipality of General Luna.

A number of tourist businesses can be seen damaged along the road in the area, which is known for being the country’s surfing capital.

At least 15 deaths were reported in Surigao el Norte as of Sunday, December 19, Governor Francisco Matugas told local media.
