Television presenter Phillip Schofield has been ridiculed for walking across Westminster Bridge in "defiance" of the London terror attack.

The This Morning presenter posted a picture on Istagram of the Houses of Parliament enveloped in shadow on Thursday evening, a day after fanatic Khalid Masood ran down dozens of pedestrians, killing three of them.

Schofield wrote: “Walking across Westminster Bridge in tribute and defiance.”

But while he received dozens of messages praising him on Instagram, on Twitter his walk was widely mocked.

Walking across Westminster Bridge in tribute and defiance

@Mnrrnt tweeted: "Donald Trump promised and failed to defeat ISIS in 30 days. Philip Schofield just did it in 10 minutes."

@DeltaDeltaOBE added: "Philip Schofield's walk of tribute and defiance was an amazing and inspirational. ISIS you will never win"

Madeline Grant said: "Hope Philip Schofield's 'defiant' walk over Westminster Bridge is the last we see of virtue-signalling celeb responses, but somehow doubt it."

His walk was also replicated in Doncaster by John Broom.

Mark Peel said: "Sick of seeing people like Philip Schofield making the Westminster attack all about them; hooray you crossed a bridge, do you want a medal?"

Trump 2020 believed the walk was worthy of action hero Tom Cruise turning it into a movie.

There were also suggestions Schofield would follow up his walk with other marches.

Over on Instagram, however he received more praise than derision.

One of his followers commented: "With you in spirit they will never change us xx [sic]"

The post has received over 55,000 likes and comes after he moved This Morning viewers to tears with a speech on Wednesday.

He said: “It was a scene of tragedy, but among the harrowing images are heroes.

"PC Keith Palmer, who lost his life while trying to protect our democracy. The doctors and nurses who ran towards the carnage to help. And the kindness of the passers by.

“They are the Britain we love, the country we know – the spirit that one man tried to destroy.”

In 2015 fellow TV presenter Kay Burley was roundly lampooned after posting a photograph of an old Golden Retriever who she claimed had “sadness in his eyes” following the horrific Paris attacks.

The hashtag #sadnessinhiseyes began trending as many people poked fun at the tweet.
