Phillip Schofield felt he was 'absolutely destroyed' over his 'unwise' actions as he prepares to tell 'his side of the story'. The presenter's new Channel 5 show will air next week - marking his first TV comeback since the This Morning scandal.

The 62-year-old stepped down from his ITV hosting duties in May 2023, after an affair with a junior member of staff triggered controversy and caused a rift in his long-running friendship with co-star Holly Willoughby. His exit saw him take a step back from the spotlight, but there had been speculation he had received 'multiple offers' to return to TV.

The star put an end to the rumours earlier this week, when he revealed he'd spent his summer secretly filming a new show, Cast Away, which sees him marooned on a tropical island for 10 days. He told his Instagram followers "Now you know how I spent my summer!

"Alone for 10 days, no food, no water, no crew. My story of survival, both on a desert island and off it. Cast Away starts Monday on @channel5_tv & My5 at 9pm."

An explosive trailer has been released, showing Phillip making an emotional admission, the Mirror reports. He said: "I've been cast away on a desert island completely on my own.

"All I have is camera gear, I can say whatever I want about whoever I want. It's my chance to tell my side of my story.

"I know what I did was unwise, but is it enough to absolutely destroy someone?"

Discussing Phillip's new role, a source told The Sun : "Over the past few months Phil has had quite a few offers for various things - but has steadfastly turned them all down. This sort of challenge has always appealed to him though and after consulting with friends and family, he decided to go for it.

"It's all been top secret, and has been an incredibly quick turnaround in order to keep the news quiet. With 10 days to himself, no camera crews or production around, he shot some unbelievably raw footage - some of it makes for tough, emotional viewing.

The source continued: "But he wanted a chance to share his story, unedited and honest, and let viewers see another side to him."
