She's a hot favourite to take over from Peter Capaldi as the next star of Doctor Who – but if she is boarding the TARDIS, Phoebe Waller-Bridge isn't talking about it.

Digital Spy did our best to quiz the Fleabag star about being a bookies' favourite to play the next Doctor, but she was keeping schtum.

"I am not going to make any comment about that," she said, speaking at last night's (April 20) BAFTA TV & BAFTA TV Craft Nominees' Party.

Bah. Still, Waller-Bridge told us that she is a fan of Doctor Who... what she's seen of it.

"I love the bits that I've watched," she said. "But I haven't watched that many bits!"

Maybe she's just being elusive? We doubt her being coy will put any dent in those bookies' odds...

Her answer's certainly less definitive than Maxine Peake's, who insisted she has absolutely no interest in becoming the show's first female Doctor.

"God, no!" she said earlier this month. "I hope it's a woman, but it doesn't really bother me as long as the person who gets it really wants to do it."

Between now and whenever the next Doctor is officially announced, we'll do our best to narrow down the long list of candidates being put forward. Seriously, there are loads.

In the meantime, Doctor Who continues this Saturday at 7.20pm on BBC One.

The Virgin TV British Academy Television Awards 2017 will be held at London's Royal Festival Hall on Sunday, May 14 and will be broadcast on BBC One that evening.
