Phoenix Policeman Rescues Dog From Canal

A Phoenix, Arizona, police officer and some community members worked together to rescue a dog struggling to stay afloat in a canal on Wednesday, March 18, the police department said.

Around 5.30 pm, several concerned citizens called 911 to report a dog swimming in a canal, struggling to climb the concrete sides onto dry land, a press release said.

Officer Christopher Muniz used one of the canal’s built-in safety ladders to climb down and call the dog to him, police said. Muniz coaxed her to swim to him, then secured a rope around the dog, and safely pulled her from the canal.

The Phoenix Police Department shared this bodycam footage on Tuesday, March 24, showing Officer Muniz’s rescue.

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) reported that the dog was uninjured and was adopted within a week of her rescue, according to local media. Credit: Phoenix Police Department via Storyful
