HUNDREDS of pupils passed through the doors of Everton High School in Blackburn.
When education bosses announced that they were planning to close the secondary school situated on Manxman Road due to falling numbers it provoked an outcry with staff and parents uniting in a fight to save the school.
But their efforts were in vain and a two-year battled ended when the school closed for good in August 1988.
We have been into the archives and found some photos which show the school both in its heyday and also after its closure. The school stood empty for more than four years and suffered at the hands of vandals. In 1992 much of the main building was destroyed by a blaze.
The site was subsequently redeveloped.
