Ravi Shankar dies: A life in pictures

Ravi Shankar died at the age of 92 in California after a long and influential career. He became a musical icon in the 1960s due to his friendship with The Beatles and George Harrison in particular. Deemed a "national treasure" by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Shankar had been in fragile health for several years. He had undergone heart surgery last week.
