The Prime Minister said that Pink Floyd's 1973 album was his favourite, despite previously stating that The Smiths' 'The Queen is Dead' was his number one album. David Cameron recently told the Sunday Telegraph his current choice of bands were Band of Horses and Lana Del Ray and his children had "appalling" pop music.

Former Prime Minister Gordon Brown famously said that he was a big fan of the Arctic Monkeys, though later admitted that he couldn't name one of their songs. His expert analysis on the indie rockers? "They are very loud"

In fact Brown is far more likely to be a disco fan, as Bee Gees frontman Robin Gibb told the Times he played their songs "every day". "Gordon likes our music and I like him," he added.

Knowing Boris Johnson's enigmatic character you would have thought that his favourite artist would be an obscure choice. Quite the opposite- the Mayor of London chose The Beatles as his number one pick during his appearance on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs.

Like Tony Blair, President Obama said that he had a wide range of musical interests and was unable to pick a favourite. Growing up he loved Stevie Wonder (pictured), before moving on to Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan. After opening up his iPod playlists to Rolling Stone magazine, Obama said that both Springsteen and Dylan are "idols".

Not to be outdone, Austalia prime minister Julia Gillard admitted a penchant for rock band INXS. The band featured on a Aussie-only digital mixtape Gillard gave to President Obama, along with Crowded House, Powderfinger and Wolfmother.
