Ukraine in flames

Months of tense confrontations peaked in Kiev on Tuesday night as anti-government demonstrators clashed with riot police on the bloodiest night of protests. Supporters of the opposition, who have been camped in Kiev's Independence Square since November, hurled pavement stones, fireworks and Molotov coktails at riot police. In return police fired water cannons and rubber bullets at protesters. An estimated 25 people - civilians and riot police - have died during the most recent clashes.
