Ukraine: Violent protests continue as pro-Russian activists seize government buildings

Ukrainian Special Forces have exchanged gunfire with a pro-Russia militia in an eastern city, with at least 13 people killed and several others wounded. It was the first reported gun battle in east Ukraine, where armed pro-Russia forces have seized a number of government buildings and police stations in recent days.

Airborne troops landed at an airport in the eastern city of Kramatorsk yesterday as the country launched an 'anti-terrorist operation' against pro-Russian separatists. Shots rang out from inside the air base after Ukrainian troops disembarked from two military helicopters.
