Carrie Johnson beamed in the winter sunlight as she posed for photographs with her children at a sandy beach on Sunday.

The Prime Minister’s family wrapped up warm as they escaped London for some sea air, posing for a series of images shared by Mrs Johnson, 33, on Instagram.

With newborn daughter Romy snuggled up in a baby carrier, son Wilfred ran across the sand and paddled in the shallow water. Wilfred will turn two in April, while Romy was born a month ago on Dec 9.

The trio were accompanied by their dog, Dilyn, although it is not known if Boris Johnson also joined them. The pictures are believed to have been taken at Thorpe Bay in Essex.

Wilfred was protected from the elements in a red £7 dinosaur puddle suit from Sainsbury’s, while his sister was wrapped up in a distinctive cloud patterned baby carrier that appeared to be from luxury retailer Artipoppe.

The Zeitgeist Baby Sky carrier costs £310 and is described by the manufacturer as a vegan product that “represents a sense of freedom and self-expression”.

While Mrs Johnson is always careful not to publish photographs depicting her son’s face, his blonde curly hair is unmistakable.

She shared the first photograph of her daughter on social media shortly before Christmas, revealing that they had named her Romy Iris Charlotte Johnson.

In the Instagram post, she explained that Romy was named after her aunt, Rosemary, while Iris was the Greek word for “rainbow”, and Charlotte was picked in honour of Mr Johnson’s late mother, Charlotte Johnson Wahl, who died last year.

Mrs Johnson has previously described her daughter as a “ rainbow baby” - a term to describe a child born after a miscarriage.

Romy, born at University College London Hospital, was pictured lying in a crib under the Christmas tree, her elder brother looking over her.
