In pictures: Thousands line streets as Queen's 'last great journey' begins

The Queen has left Balmoral Castle for the final time, with her coffin taken to Edinburgh's Palace of Holyroodhouse for the first part of what the King has described as her "last great journey".

Thousands lined the streets as the seven-car cortege carrying her coffin gave people the opportunity to bid a final farewell to the country's longest-serving monarch.

The coffin was brought into the palace in Scotland's capital on Sunday afternoon, before it is laid to rest on Monday at the St Giles' Cathedral along the Royal Mile.
