Heavy rain has caused flooding in Yorkshire with a caravan park near the coast getting some of the worst of the weather.

Cayton Bay, owned by Park Dene Resorts, was partially submerged in the aftermath of the rain, as seen in dramatic photographs taken by a caravan owner from East Yorkshire. It looks like the water has not entered homes but is approximately 20cm deep in places.

The Met Office issued a 24-hour yellow weather warning for heavy rain in the Hull and East Yorkshire area. The alert, which was active from midnight on Thursday until midnight on Friday, warned of 20-30mm of rainfall "quite widely" within a single day. On average, there is 44.9mm over the entire month, according to the Met Office.

Flooding alerts have been issued for large areas of Yorkshire including Scarborough and the North York Moors. But there are currently no active flood warnings for Hull and East Yorkshire.

Over the weekend, the weather is expected to take a turn for the better with sunny spells in between light cloud cover. It is not forecast to rain again until Monday and temperatures will be cool but fairly stable with highs between 14C and 15C.

The UK long-range forecast from October 1 predicts heavy rain in the northeast on Tuesday but elsewhere "winds will be easing and conditions will mostly be fine and dry", the Met Office reports. From Wednesday and Thursday, "most areas should be dry with some spells of sunshine".

Beyond Thursday, temperatures are expected to be below average and the weather will become "more changeable with occasional spells of rain and perhaps strong winds".

A spokesperson for Cayton Bay Holiday Park said: "Due to adverse weather conditions over the last two days, a small section of the Park has been closed due to flooding. The safety of our guests is our top priority, and the team is supporting those due to depart today and providing alternative options for other guest impacts. We would like to thank our guests for their understanding.”
