This year’s U.N. climate conference in Glasgow, Scotland, marks the 26th time since 1995 that world leaders have gathered to confront global warming. 1800s - Throughout the 1800s, several European scientists study how different gases and vapours can trap heat in Earth’s atmosphere. In the 1890s, Swedish scientist Svante Arrhenius calculates the temperature effect of a doubling of atmospheric CO2, showing that burning fossil fuels would likely warm the planet.
Two million eligible people will be invited to receive a COVID-19 booster jab from the NHS this week, as the government seeks to see off a sharp rise in cases without introducing Plan B measures. Instead, Health Secretary Sajid Javid has been leading calls for people to once again get jabbed in the hope that boosting the population's immunity levels will see infections drop off. Around 7.5 million people have already been invited by text, email, and letter encouraging them to book through the National Booking Service, NHS England said.
While the UK Government has now embarked on a programme of starting to offer 8.5 million who are eligible a third booster vaccine, the number of people in the world’s poorest countries who have been fully vaccinated is just 1.3 per cent. Earlier this year, Prime Minister Boris Johnson promised to supply 100 million surplus vaccines within the next year to poor countries but, as with so many of his promises, he has delivered fewer than 10 per cent of this figure. The lack of equitable global vaccine distribution should be a source of great shame for Britain and other rich nations.
