Tonight at the BIC is the start of a run of four gigs that all promise to be immense.

With David Gray, A-ha and the Pet Shop Boys one after the other what better way to start the weekend than spend a couple of hours with Years & Years on The Night Call tour.

First up we were treated to a couple of sets from the tour support Queer House Party who filled the stage full of a riot of colour and numerous dancers who did a great job of warming the crowd up for the main act.

And what a main act it was. The lights dimmed and the curtain dropped to reveal a telephone box containing the only remaining member of Years & Years, Olly Alexander.

The first three songs go by in a blur of telephone lines, motorbike leathers and that driving club beat that never stops. The crowd are immediately swept along on a rush of adrenalin fuelled energy that keeps everyone on their feet for the entire evening.

The band is way back in the corners to leave the stage free for Olly, his wonderful backing singers and dancers to cover every inch with energetic and imaginative dance routines.

The show is wonderfully choreographed so hats off to the team that put the tour together. The show moves along at a hectic pace that leaves me grateful that I had a seat as there is no way I could match the level of energy both on the stage and in the crowd.

We were an hour into the gig before the pace dropped for a quick chat (you have played Bournemouth before, Olly!) and a mellow version of 20 Minutes which was excellent. A great cover of It's A Sin from the aforementioned Pet Shop Boys which burst into life after a low key opening and supplied one of my favourite parts of the evening.

This is a show where the stage crew work just as hard as the band and dancers as the set constantly changes throughout the evening. We have songs in telephone boxes, toilet cubicles and beds.

The lights are also excellent perfectly complimented by the giant screen backdrop running pre-recorded clips of Olly and the dancers.

This was only the second night of a tour that must have been in rehearsal for an age as everything looks to run perfectly.

What a great night of entertainment that left the crowd wanting more and exhausted at the same time.
